I have created some useful hints and tips to ensure you get the most out of your session.
For as long as I can remember, I've never liked my photo taken.
I'm always the one behind the camera. Taking pictures of every moment, every new milestone for Freya and Harrison, every time there's a family gathering, or even when the sun hits through the trees at just the right time.
Jumping into the world of family lifestyle photography has meant I've had to practice what I preach and get comfortable in front of the camera, telling myself what I tell my beautiful families when I photograph them; be yourself, relax, and enjoy making those memories, because when we're all gone, the only thing that's left are the pictures we take along the way.
Why the cowboy hat and boots? Well, being only 5ft they both make me just that little bit taller which helps when my gorgeous hubby is over 6ft. But anyone who knows me knows that I love anything to do with the outdoors: countryside, horses, cowboys, cowgirls, and anything western. That must be the little bit of Canadian in me.
As a Yorkshire lass, I've recently brought my amazing family including our two fur babies across the waters to Alberta Canada. We now live in the beautiful town of Cochrane, here, there is a whole new life of awesome scenery and families to photograph. And where l will be making the most of my love for hats, boots, and all things Western.
While lifestyle and portrait photography each have their unique characteristics, they often intersect and complement each other. A lifestyle shoot may incorporate elements of portraiture to capture individual personalities within a candid setting. Conversely, portrait sessions may incorporate elements of lifestyle photography to infuse authenticity and spontaneity into posed shots.
Ultimately, whether you gravitate towards lifestyle or portrait photography, the key lies in understanding your subjects, connecting with their stories, and capturing moments that resonate on a deeper level. Whether you're freezing candid moments in time or meticulously crafting portraits, the art of photography allows us to explore the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
In the world of photography, capturing moments isn't just about snapping pictures; it's about telling stories and encapsulating emotions. Two popular genres that often intertwine but possess distinct characteristics are lifestyle and portrait photography.
Understanding the nuances between the two can immensely enhance your appreciation for the art and help you navigate your own photographic journey.
Lifestyle photography is all about authenticity and spontaneity. It seeks to document real-life moments and narratives in a candid, unscripted manner. The essence of lifestyle photography lies in capturing the essence of everyday life – the laughter shared between friends, the warmth of a family gathering, or the quiet intimacy of a couple's embrace.
In a lifestyle photoshoot, the photographer aims to blend into the background, allowing moments to unfold naturally. The focus is on genuine expressions, emotions, and interactions rather than posed shots. Whether it's a stroll in the park, a cozy afternoon at home, or a bustling city street, lifestyle photography thrives on capturing the beauty of life's unscripted moments.
On the other hand, portrait photography is a deliberate and intentional art form focused on capturing the essence of an individual or group. It's about creating visually compelling images that showcase the subject's personality, character, and emotions. Unlike lifestyle photography, portrait sessions often involve careful planning, posing, and attention to detail.
Portrait photographers work closely with their subjects to evoke specific emotions and expressions. Whether it's a formal studio setting, an outdoor location, or a candid street portrait, the photographer's goal is to create a captivating image that resonates with the viewer.
From headshots and family portraits to editorial spreads and fashion shoots, portrait photography encompasses a diverse range of styles and techniques. The Interplay Between Lifestyle and Portrait Photography.
"The essence of lifestyle photography lies in capturing the essence of everyday life"
In conclusion, the distinction between lifestyle and portrait photography extends beyond technical aspects; it's about storytelling, connection, and the art of seeing beauty in the ordinary. Embrace the diversity of both genres, experiment with different techniques, and let your creativity guide you as you embark on your photographic journey.
Whenever possible, I love to get outdoors and explore our beautiful country- Canada.
